Signal Hill National Historic Site
Parks Canada and The Historic Sites Association
In early 2020, Blue Rhino Design was selected by The Historic Sites Association (HSA) and Parks Canada to develop a comprehensive Interpretive Plan to create a new suite of visitor experiences at Signal Hill National Historic Site in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The exhibits will present Signal Hill’s 300-year connection to global communications history – most importantly, Guglielmo Marconi’s successful transatlantic wireless experiment in 1901.
Our work included a detailed assessment of the many exhibit spaces available at Signal Hill, including Cabot Tower, the Parks Visitor Centre, outdoor trails, the old Powder Magazine, and several satellite locations. We worked closely with the HSA and Parks Canada and took part in numerous community outreach sessions with stakeholder groups who had an interest in Signal Hill and/or the communications story.
In addition to the Interpretive Plan, we also developed a marketing presentation to assist the HSA in acquiring funding for the next phase of the project.
